About
Agartha is a mythological and mystical kingdom said to be located underground within the inner surface of the Earth. The city of Agartha is a popular subject in hollow earth theories and Western esotericism, which is distinct from both Judeo-Christian religion and Enlightenment-era rationalism. In meme culture, Agartha is sometimes co-opted into discussions about Hyperborea, with people joking about finding a "portal" to Agartha and making ironic Aryan Classic videos. In 2025, a number of memes combining Agartha imagery and White Monster Energy drinks began going viral on TikTok, making another semi-ironic resurgence in the myth. In November 2025, a juvenile attacked a mosque in Jakarta, Indonesia, carrying a toy rifle with the words "For Agartha" written on it, as well as references to other notable white supremacist mass shooters.
Origin
Ideas about the lost underground city of Agartha can be traced as far back as the year 1910, with French physician, hypnotist, and occultist Gérard Encausse editing and republishing an older account by a fellow occultist. After World War 1, the German "Thule Society," closely associated with Nazism, began to take an avid interest in Agartha.[1]
American esoteric writer Raymond W. Bernard also expressed an interest in Agartha, with the diagram below showing a map of "Hollow Earth" as well as the entrance to Agartha.[2]

2025 Indonesia "For Agartha" Bombing
On November 7th, 2025, a series of explosions during Friday prayers at the mosque inside SMA Negeri 72 in Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, injured over 50 people, mostly students.[9] Authorities identified a 17-year-old student as the primary suspect. Investigators reportedly found toy weapons at the scene, one inscribed with slogans like "14 words. For Agartha" and "Brenton Tarrant. Welcome to Hell," seemingly referencing the Christchurch Shooter. [10]
A photo of the toy rifle with the slogans scrawled on it is shown below:
According to a statement given by Detachment-88, an Indonesian counter-terrorism squad, the underage attacker acted independently while taking inspiration from a number of white-supremacist or Neo-Nazi shooters. The spokesperson explicitly named Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, Dylann Roof, Alexandre Bissonnette, Vladislav Roslyakov, Brenton Tarrant, and Natalie Lynn Rupnow, as figures who may have inspired the attacker.
Some internet users posted memes about what could compel a young man in Indonesia to dedicate an act of violence to Agartha, including Instagram [14] page @du_duruu, who wrote, "The type of content bro watches before blowing up an entire school and writing some right wing extremist figure and the phrase "for agartha" on a 10ドル airsoft gun," on November 7th, 2025, and gathered over 10,000 likes in a week.
