Forum Module D8 Do we really need a new module Forum-Access to do what permissions should do for FORUM

Forum Module D8 Do we really need a new module, Forum-Access, to do what permissions should do for FORUM. If I wanted to stop anonymous unauthenticated users from seeing forum posts shouldn't I be able to easily turn that off for anonymous users via permissions or contrariwise, default inability to see until the role 'anonymous user' has been given the permission. I cannot find a Forum Module to see where to point this discussion so I thought it might be a good topic here.... Also put it in chat...

On the 23rd–25th of June, just before Twin Cities Drupal Camp, we will be conducting usability testing focusing on Drupal 8 at the University of Minnesota. This is a great opportunity to evaluate the current state of Drupal 8 and identify issues that can be resolved before release, or require much of our attention after release.

Make default publishing options optional

Posted by zfactor on June 20, 2014 at 3:36pm

Over the years, most of my clients have been confused by the default publishing options - Published, Promote to frontpage, and Sticky at top of lists - appearing on all content types. I think it is great that these options are available in core, but I can say for projects I work on we rarely use these on more than one or two content types. I can understand how having options on the node form that aren't being used would be confusing for content editors.

Findings from D8 UX study: Moving between site and admin interface (overlay alternative)

Posted by lisarex on November 18, 2013 at 11:28pm

Background

For this study, wanted to learn how well content editors could move between admin and non-admin pages, using the patch proposed in Issue #787896, an alternative to Overlay. We recruited 7 participants with experience building or managing content in CMSs. Their Drupal experience ranged from none to many years, but all of them were satisfied, neutral or unaware about the Overlay (that is, none of the participants were dissatisfied with it).

Why admin menu module is still not included in the Drupal core?

Posted by yaremchuk on October 24, 2013 at 9:04am

I found and loved admin menu module during Drupal 6 ages.
This module became so popular and I was sure that it will be included in Drupal 7 core.

The main strong point of admin menu that we can open any level of Drupal admin in one click.

But now I can see that admin menu is not even in Drupal 8 core.

Why?

I'm sure that it is sufficient reason to include it in Drupal core.

Thoughts?

Seven Style Guide update

Posted by lewisnyman on October 18, 2013 at 1:08pm

A few months ago in February we proposed a style guide for the Seven theme, we are now well underway. This is a recap and look ahead.

The objectives of the Style Guide are:

  • Identify Drupal core values that we can use to determine the look & feel for the Seven theme.
  • Unify the visual language in Seven and ensure the overall look-and-feel supports the core values.
  • Identify the visual and UI patterns used by Drupal core so that they form a conscious, shared language for us to built upon.

Improve Drupal 8 user interface texts

With APIs as good as frozen, it's time to take a step back and get an idea of what's all been added to Drupal core. The capabilities are there, now to expose and communicate them so that people understand what's going on and apply it to what they want to achieve.

To most people the user interface is the application. All the machinery under the hood is taken for granted. It's easy to lose sight of this, but very important to keep in mind.
