Anyone interested in collaborating on a "recipe" for Boy Scout Troops

Posted by dgnova3 on February 9, 2009 at 9:55pm

I have been working with Drupal for about 3 years and am active in BSA as an assistant scoutmaster. I have a vision for a troop recipe. I would like to do this in version 6 because it will rely on CCK and views extensively. I do not have particularly strong skill sets in CSS and PHP but I know my way around drupal pretty well and am learning as I go with the other items.

If you have a troop site or pack site, or are working with a pack or troop, I would like partners who could help with the vision and test concepts.

So far the concept is

Using Organic Groups for a scouting site?

Posted by drea on September 11, 2006 at 4:13pm

Hi, I'm going to turn this into a bit of a support forum, so let me know if I should take this question back to, say, the support forums :-)

My scouting site, under development, is:
http://www.pqpack621.org.

I'd love to get a sense of what works for the other scouting sites out there.

I'm new to Drupal, and I came to it in the middle of setting up a site for my son's Cub Scout pack. I'm hoping that each of the den leaders will be able to post their meeting and event announcements. I'm gradually adding in modules that I think I'll need.

the question:
I'd like the dens to be able to see their own events, but also be able to see the pack-wide events. I was planning to build some filters onto the individual Den pages so that the event listings would have the right stuff. But it sounds like Organic Groups handles some of that.

JOTI 2006

Posted by chrissearle@dru... on September 10, 2006 at 9:27am

JOTI 2006 will be running 21-22 october this year

http://www.scout.org/wse/joti.shtml

I've run a few JOTI competitions before - but these were custom coded. They were based on a set of questions to be answered, plus online chat between the teams, and the ability to use lifelines (yes - very who wants to be a millionaire I know) - get a hint, ask another team and ask all other teams.

I won't be running one this year due to personal time constraints (although I will probably be in the JOTI IRC channels on the 21st).

However - I'd be interested to hear if any others will be running anything special for JOTI/JOTA this year - and if so - will it be integrated into a drupal based site?

Scouting/Guiding

Well, as an active leader in the Longship group (www.longship.org) I got the suggestion for the group from David, an ex-longshipper who is now an active leader with 4th Caterham (http://www.4thcaterham.org.uk/).

Longship is running drupal, Caterham is looking at switching.

It seems that drupal is a good match for such youth group sites - so - here's a group to allow discussion on what works well, what not so well - a place to ask questions and to exchange ideas.

I have a feeling that drupal is also well suited to large events - think for example about JOTI, or a site during and after a jamboree.
