Drupal + Portland + Jobs?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

So first off, really hate that I missed the Brewpal meetup, but I'm looking at relocating to Portland and was hoping to get some advise in regards to the job situation here for Drupal heads.

Currently I do mostly publication oriented websites on more of an independent contractor basis (http://lowcountrydog.com/ http://thedigitel.com etc) but wouldn't mind joining a firm.

So, that's the questions: How's it finding independent Drupal jobs in the Portland area? And what is the job situation like for getting a spot at an established place (particularly anywhere not too far from the city center)?

Asking more generally as it might help others, but if it helps my expertise lies in front-end setup, general configuration, and site design, diving into PHP and jQuery where necessary, and I have a journalism/infographics background ( http://allaboutken.com/work )

good question

I find my self looking at Portland as a possible relocation area. I would be interested to hear what the Drupal + Job situation is like out there. I will be visiting friends in the city the week of thanksgiving, and even though I know that is a heavily traveled week, I am seeking some professional networking opportunities.

Anyone interested, please feel free to contact me.

Portland and Drupal

In my experience Portland is great place to be in tech, open source, and specifically Drupal. When it comes to job market though it's a project based industry, and it just depends on who's ready to move on their project, who's not and that determines whether you can freelance, or whether or not a firm has work for you.

That being said if you know your stuff, and keep learning and looking it's not a bad town to find work in. I definitely recommend coming to the meetups, you can network, learn a lot, and meet a lot of people who think about Drupal almost non-stop.

Most of the Drupal firms are in downtown Portland, so it's a good place to start if you're looking for full-time work.

Thanks for the notes, going

Thanks for the notes, going to do a bit more research on Google.

I'm in town through Monday (30th) if anyone wants to grab a beer and do some friendly chatting about Drupal and Portland, especially if you want to toss in chatting about media and advertising strategies.
