Lesson #33 - How the signup.module works

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This week in the dojo, Senpai will delve into the logistics of the signup module, what it's good for, how it works, and what you can do with it. This little module is a stand alone beauty that can also feature-add to other modules at the same time. If you have users who want to register for things like meetings, camps, conferences, stories, chapters of a book, and just about anything else, come to this class and ask questions.

Sounds great...

no one thought to invite me (the maintainer of the module), so i didn't know about this and missed it. ;) sorry about that. hopefully next time...

I think I'm gonna recast this one.

Ahh, Derek, I was looking for you in IRC to ask you to join us, but we only decided to do this about 20 hours before it actually happened. I did it by request, and I'm sure I didn't cover all the really cool features.

I went back and listened to my screencast recording, and I sound positively awful! I had a bad sore throat all week, and it shows. Not to mention the fact that I talked for an entire hour and only covered about 20 minutes of real material. I wanna do it again.

Nobody is going to watch this one-hour class about a contrib module. I need to tighten things up a lot, and I've been thinking a lot about doing a series of dojo lessons on how modules were designed to work. Perhaps a set of 20 to 25 minute overview lessons would be great. I'm sure a lot of peoples would love to try out a module or three, but they get them installed and can't figure out what the darn thing is supposed to do.

I remember when I installed a few modules as a newbie, and playing with them sometimes led to frustration. I abolished a few modules from my sites that "just didn't work". Hmm, I wonder if I really understood their author's intent?

DWW, would you care to re-cast this lesson with me? We'd love to learn from you, especially about some hidden features, like "What happens to the extra form fields that get created during a form_alter?".

Any audio or video would be great

Can this be found and posted? (I don't care about a scratchy throat!) something better than nothing.

I know it's a bit late but I would love to take a look at this.

Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
