Module for Hotels or Venues

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I have been working on a hotel module for creating hotel / venue information (name, address, contact info, facilities, maps, photos, etc.) for a travel guide. While creating it I have been thinking about how to abstract the node type / module to display information about any sort of venue: restaurants, shops, bars, museums, whatever.

Has anybody out there done (or is doing) something similar? Given the large amount of travel / destination / city guide sites based on Drupal out there it might make for a handy general-purpose module.

What do you think?

Great Idea!

I know I would definitely test it out. There are lots of possible implementations for it. I look forward to seeing the beta!

Actually, it's more in the "I am thinking about it" stage at this moment.

I will have a need for it eventually. Maybe we can get a few people here to group-think the requirements and work on something jointly?

Any ideas on how you would go about it?

While a dedicated "plug and play" hotel / venue module might be a great addition to the Drupal toolkit, recently I have been thinking that CCK might just be the easier solution and not go the route of a full module. Any comments on that idea?

I think a CCK based page will be the way to go.
You can always had some of the CCK modules for additional info like location, maps, etc.
As for photos - it is really wasy to combine a CCK/Views albums into it as well.

Hi there,

I am searching along on drupal and found this post. I am working with a tourism company and looking for ways to expand the use of drupal as related to our industry.

Would love to hear how your project ended.

Thanks!
