Theming changes in Drupal 6.x

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

A bunch of us themers at DrupalCon Barcelona decided that we really ought to revive this group!

On that note... Merlin gave a great presentation on the exciting new things happening in themes for Drupal 6, including subthemes, info files, MUCH better separation of logic and presentation, and more template files throughout Drupal. Here's a more thorough description of what's changed for theming in 6: http://drupal.org/node/132442

We're getting a lot closer to that point where CSS/HTML gurus don't have to be PHP whizzes in order to create great themes.

Specifically, I would love to see theme developers use this group as a place to create a good set of basic CSS classes that should be used in Drupal 7, and an HTML/CSS style guide (which doesn't have as much to do with the visual presentation as it does to do with telling developers how to create good HTML/CSS that is easy to work with and consistent across Drupal).

I think one of the problem's of this group is that it is mostly only job-related. That's why I unsubscribed shortly after I subscribed. Maybe we need two groups; theme-dev and theme-dev-jobs or something? WDYT?

Merlin, Is there a video of your presentation? It looks great!

Click the "Jobs" tab at the top of the page. Lots of job postings. That's a much better place than using a group directly, I think.

Given the description of the group, this isn't intended to be a jobs related group. I'll have to find the group moderator and see about setting an official policy of unpublishing inappropriately posted job posts here.

Yeah I hope this place gets rolling :)

Ditto with note gathering though. I definitely want to share. CA's two big sexy projects (that I'm the themer on) are launching beta within one day of each other (!!) in early October so I may not be around much until after that!

Dojo Lesson

Posted by merlinofchaos on September 27, 2007 at 11:37pm

I'll be repeating the DrupalCon talk I gave as a Dojo Lesson on October 10 at 7pm PDT (that's a Wednesday) and it will be recorded. I urge those of you with input here to show up for at least the Q&A portion as we can hopefully discuss some of the "Where to now" items with the larger community.
