2010年04月21日 19:00 - 23:00 America/Los_Angeles
Event type:
User group meeting

Casual meetup, dinner & drinks on Wednesday evening for Drupalers from down under (or there abouts) who are attending DrupalCon San Francisco. Note also the DrupalCon Asia-Pacific Organizers (DCAPO) meeting earlier in the day.

You don't need to signup for this event — you can just show up. Though signing up helps us determine what venue will accommodate us and if we need a reservation (hopefully not).

Good wine region

California has good wines! I also heard that SF has a few good micro breweries (but American beer is of low standard). Anyone want to try some wines?

I'll be there.

When selecting a venue please make sure they have some vegetarian options.

Thirsty Bear (as in beer)

Posted by timhomewood on April 8, 2010 at 5:50am

My sister, a SF resident, recommended Thirsty Bear Brewery (http://www.thirstybear.com/ annoying website soundtrack warning) as a good casual place to meetup near Moscone.

They have vegetarian options, and otherwise healthy sounding fare:
"ThirstyBear serves only sustainable harvested seafood, all natural meats free of growth hormones, antibiotics & synthetic additives, seasonal local produce & whenever economically possible we choose organic"

My sister also recommended some other places variously described as "cheesy", "over-the-top" and "hilarious". Perhaps for later ;)

Weird. I intentionally left

Weird. I intentionally left signups turned off. Oh well, several people "signed up" already so I guess I will leave it on. You don't need to "sign up" for this though.

Thirsty bear sounds good to me, as long it's a casual walk-in bar-style place, and not a sit-down only restaurant. Which is not clear from the website. Do you know Tim?

Any other recommendations?

still happening

Posted by timhomewood on April 20, 2010 at 5:28am

Are we still meeting up Wednesday night? We should have a better feel for good places around now - my feel is maybe the thirsty bear isn't so good though it was a venue for some post-pre-conference fun on saturday or sunday i think so we could ask around.

I'm happy to meet anywhere.

I was there already twice

Posted by Bevan on April 20, 2010 at 6:53am

I was there already twice (before and after dinner) on Saturday night after the core dev summit, then again on Sunday night for the CDG/Examiner.com/NowPublic meetup. I love it. It has excellent beer (it's a brewery). The wheat beer is better than Hoegaarden. The bar food is okay. Atmosphere and style of venue is good and appropriate for our group.

The only issue is that the main DrupalCon party is in Mission, which is not convenient from Thirsty bear or the DrupalCon venue. See directions on google maps. Maybe it doesn't really matter?

I will likely have a Drupal Association commitment that may take me till 9pm-ish, so I may be quite late.

lunch?

I would be cool to meet at

I would be cool to meet at lunch. I won't be able to make an evening thing as I have family I will be with.

Already invited other ex-pat aussies for the evening

Posted by rcross on April 21, 2010 at 8:11am

I've already talked to a couple ex-pat aussies about it being an evening event (and i've got another meetup during lunch), so I would prefer to keep it as dinner but happy to change the venue.

Bevan - I thought the association event was on thursday or friday, no?

Agreed, we'll meet at the

Agreed, we'll meet at the registration desk at 12pm. We'll head for lunch after about 10-15 minutes and I'll tweet the location for anyone who hasn't made it to us.

Just saw Ryan's post. There

Just saw Ryan's post. There is no problem splitting it, especially if people can't make it to one or the other. I'm not likely to go in the evening as I still have people to catch up with and the evening is very useful for that.
