In 2019 user tracking on webpages will be more complicated. The this year in the eu you need an real opt-in before tracking a user. I tested the usercount on my page with analytics (real opt-in) and piwik (hidden tracking) and the result showed me only 40% to 50 % of user accepted the opt-in.

Now I'm looking for a possibility to track unique users, user frequence and visited pages (maybe referer pages also) inside drupal 8 so I can check the success of my online marketing activities. But all the modules I found broke my site.

Is there someone who is tracking user-activities inside drupal 8 and if yes, what modules do you use?

As far as I know, Matomo

As far as I know, Matomo (formerly Piwik) states that their self-hosted (on-premise) solution is GDPR compliant: https://matomo.org/gdpr

However, you're correct, I also confirm your observations, only a partial segment of site visitors are eager to take even the minimal effort to bother with an opt-in request. Therefore online marketers have to figure out different approach nowadays to gain insights about visitor activity in a compliant way.
