I've just become an e-Resident of Estonia. I've done this because Estonia has been leading the Digital 5 (D5) (now D7) and promoting open standards and open source.

The Government of Canada has just joined and is interested in emulating what works and trying to apply it to Canada.

Anyways, I'm curious about how this is taken in Estonia. I am also looking at setting up an Estonian virtual company. Mostly this is just to experiment with the system you have.
One of the requirements to set up a business is a physical address. Seems like there are a lot of firms willing to do that. Not sure that any of them are more than just a cash grab for foreigners.
Thought it would be an interesting conversation to start.

Hi Mike,
In terms of Drupal, the Estonian government, in an effort to standardise site design and structure across ministries and various gov't organisations, ordered what amounts to a Drupal installation profile, that was mostly built in 2013 and implemented across various sites after that.
The project is "owned" by the Estonian Government Office, which is where I worked from 2013-2015, helping oversee (and contributing to) the installation profile's development. Adoption of the profile by gov't ministries was voluntary, but highly recommended - hoping to give a consistent look and feel to sites across the public sector.
As for digital gov't in Estonia, the breadth of online services is vast and made possible by our ID-Cards (Similar to what you get as an e-Resident.) combined with the infrastructure (both technical and legal) to support digital authentication and digital signatures in contracts and day-to-day transactions. (Banking, utilites etc.)
I'm also happy to discuss this further with you "offline". I have a somewhat unique position in all this as I am also a Canadian citizen. :)
