Hey everyone!

DID YOU HEAR THE NEWS? https://www.drupal.org/node/2605142

Today the core maintainers announced that 19 November will be the official release date for Drupal 8. I obviously believe we need to have a party to celebrate. We don't have a ton of time to organize, but I can devote some Association staff resources (ok, my time) to help plan, so I figured we should start here and see what you guys want to do.

Prior to the announcement, I was able to talk to Phase 2, MetalToad, Drupalize.me, and ThinkShout. They have all kicked in some budget so that we can organize some shenanigans. I was generally thinking that it would be good to book a place that's not someone's office, buy some food and swag, and let people buy drinks. I looked at Lucky Lab on Quimby, but they are booked for that evening.

So, some questions:

  1. General plan ok? Suggestions?
  2. Venue recommendations?
  3. Any swag you want to see?
  4. Anyone out there want to work on a PDX tech VIP invite list? It would be awesome to get some non-Drupalers there!

Other things?

This sounds great. I especially like having people buy their own alcohol. Lucky Lab in SE has almost as much space. So, it might be worth checking on.

As far as venue suggestions, what is the expected head count?

A coworker at ThinkShout has mentioned http://www.exnovobrew.com/ is a good choice because "We are committed to donating 100% of our net profits to organizations that are working to effect positive social change both in Portland and around the world."

They should be big enough because they have an upstairs.

Great suggestion.

Great suggestion. Unfortunately, they are booked. I will re-commence the scouring.

Ex novo Brew looks like a great thing!

Rent a venue?

Finding a good location for that many people can be hard. We might want to consider renting a space. This way we know we have a space that can handle the amount of people that could show up. FFW could help with the cost of this rental.

Some of these locations wave the rental fee if you buy enough food and drink from them.

Both Bridgeport Brewery and Henrys Tavern have large areas that can be rented as well.
