Drupal Global Training Days is an exciting initiative from the Drupal Association to introduce new and beginning users to Drupal. The Association partners with companies around the world to make newcomers to the Drupal community feel inspired and empowered to start great work.
Once a quarter, free or low cost training events take place around the globe with a single but flexible curriculum. It's also a great opportunity for companies to showcase their Drupal services and impact on their regions. The next Global Training Days weekend is August 21 and 22.

Please do post here if you're available on either of these days and let's see if we can get something up & running!

Learning by participating
I'm all for learning by participation, I think it works especially well in such a diverse community as we have and would be up for having some kind of drop-in 'sprint'-style GTD.
I've just got back from DrupalCamp North in Sunderland where we started sprints on Weds which was basically everyone getting up and running on Drupal 8. Only those with Windoze failed, even when trying to use drupalvm which should make it a lot easier!
The second day was then spent getting around an issue or two and by the end everyone was super-happy. I even spent hours teaching theming views - anyone who knows my love of anything remotely front-end will know how much patience that must've taken me :D but I was determined to get them up and running and contributing and once he was he sorted some CSS issues and (from what I gather!) had a bit of insight into a particular issue to do with the new Bartik theme for 8. It was great to see someone go from talking about issues to being able to just go in and fix it for themselves all just by showing them how it works was cool.
Anyway, so trying to fit into Brighton-style perhaps some drop-in "Get up and running on Drupal 8" could be good? It's an ideal chance to make the process more transparent, and 8 is simply superb out-of-the-box in terms of site-building capabilities, editing inline, views in core, etc. etc. we simply have to show it off!
Thanks!
Thanks for all the responses, when I get a moment I will sift through them all.
