Sorry to have missed this BOF. I had a scheduling conflict at DrupalCon LA.
FYI: I am the maintainer of a report writing module called Forena (https://drupal.org/project/forena) and I've done a significant amount of custom data visualization code using that tool.
I wanted to let you know that I've had some interesting success using data visualations both using d3 and also writing custom templated SVG.
