Global Sprint weekend is this coming weekend!

Drupal developers, users, and fanatics will be gathering in small groups all around the world to contribute back to the Drupal project. This year, Gorton Studios has graciously offered to provide space.

Gorton Studios
4640 Nicols Road, Suite 205
Eagan, MN 55122

Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015
10:00am - 4:00pm

As individuals, Global Sprint Weekend is a chance to give back to the Drupal project, but it's also a chance to learn more about Drupal and how to contribute to Drupal. This weekend we'll have experienced Drupal developers and mentors on hand to help you contribute to the Drupal project.

Anyone that installed a Drupal site has the skills necessary to contribute to Drupal Core. This year, those who are interested in opportunities that have less to do with code, can join a small group that will be working on documentation.

Lunch/refreshments will be provided. Please, stop by and help build/document Drupal 8!

If you are able to come, please post a note here showing your support and encouraging others to participate!

Sounds like both Tim and I will need a ride there if we're to attend.

I'll be there!

See you on Saturday!

Anyone Else Needs A Ride

Posted by stpaultim on January 15, 2015 at 2:42am

If you would like to come to Global Sprint Weekend, but need a ride, please post a note here. As Tess mentioned, there are a couple of us that are already looking for rides. I for one, will be there if I have to walk or ride on the trailer that Wilbur has for his bike.

We'll figure something out. In fact, I think that there is a Drupal module for expressly this purpose!

If we get at least one more rider, I might even rent a car for the day. So let us know if you need a ride.

Do I need any special skills

Do I need any special skills to participate in a Drupal sprint?

Apart from being called "special" a couple times, I don't know that I have any... ;)

Sprint Prep

Anyone can participate IF they have a laptop with wireless internet connection that is running a local websever development environment.

From there, we break down the crowd into two groups:

If you DON'T have a Drupal 8 development environment setup from GIT on your laptop (D8DESGYL), we will help you set that up.

IF you DO have a D8DESGYL, you are ready to start working on tasks in the issue queue!

So I think you qualify Dan!

All are welcome

It can be helpful to get a local development environment set up before a sprint, but if not, helping people setting up local environments is a pretty common thing to do at a sprint. :)

I've really enjoyed sprints and am looking forward to Saturday. I've been out of the loop on core work the last couple months, but I'm hoping to get involved again and glad to help others do so too.

See you all there!

Documentation

Posted by stpaultim on January 15, 2015 at 8:19pm

If you would rather work on documentation issues, you don't necessarily need a dev environment. I've been learning a lot about how to contribute to Drupal documentation and would love to share what I've learned and work with folks on a special documentation sprint.

Anyone that has installed or managed a Drupal website has something to offer - and we'll have people there to help you out.

So far, I'm seeing Drew, Tess, Marc, and myself have signed up. It sounds like Wilbur might be there. Anyone else planning on coming?

I will not be there

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend tomorrow. A family event came up, and we need to head to Madison tomorrow. Really sorry I can't be there, I was very much looking forward to some time to work on D8, which I haven't done for a couple months. Hopefully I can make it to the JAM event next week.

Anyone need a ride

Posted by stpaultim on January 16, 2015 at 9:15pm

Global Sprint Weekend event is Tomorrow at Gorton Studios (10am - 4pm)!

I have a car for tomorrow - if anyone needs a ride, let me know. I'll contact Tess directly!

If you can't make it all day, feel free to stop by for a few hours. The cool part, is that we will be one of 48 sites on 5 continents all sprinting this weekend. See the full list:

This will be a great chance to download and install Drupal 8 and help with testing or writing patches. (If you don't know how, we'll help you).

You can also help with Drupal Documentation - Drupal 7 or 8. Personally, I'm very interested in Documentation and would love to help you get started on contributing to Drupal documentation if that is your preference!

Lunch, snacks, and coffee will be available!

Sign up here or tweet us at @TCDrupal to let us know your coming.

Follow Along At Home

Posted by stpaultim on January 17, 2015 at 6:10pm

It's not to late to join us at Gorton Studios for Global Sprint Weekend. We'll be here until 4:00pm.

If you would like to follow along at home and hack on Drupal 8, join us in IRC and post your issues here so that we can keep score.

So far, Brad is winning!
