Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but
I was wondering if there were any Drupal-ers in Newcastle
and if there are enough people for a get together.

I think this might be a wordpress town. Interestingly, Coffs Harbour seem be have enough drupal-ers for a group.

Hey Solange - I hope the Lullabot videos were helpful. Have you had a chance to apply any of the knowledge yet? We're starting to gain momentum here...

Yes! I'm keen to meet fellow Drupal-ers in Newcastle. I have been studying Drupal intensely since November last year and as of this week our organisation is building our first commercial website built in Drupal 6 - an accommodation booking website with MyFidelio and Campaign Monitor integration. Our intranet is now being built in Drupal 6.

Previously we were using a proprietary/in-house PHP system, then Joomla 1.5... now (fingers crossed) all Drupal.

I live and work in the Newcastle CBD.

Any day/night is good for me - Customs House (Foreshore), Estabar or Liquid Gold (Newcastle Beach), The Grand (opposite court house) are possible locations for a meet up...

I'm keen to meet each of you, discuss what projects you've worked on, and get a support network happening here locally.

Following up on this post, I thought I'd share some Drupal sites we've built here at Enigma Digital ( http://enigmadigital.net.au/ ):

Newcastle Executive Apartments http://newcastleapartments.com.au/
Tilly Rose (Shoe catalog, soon to be ecommerce site): http://tillyrose.com.au/

Several more are in the pipeline. It's been great getting to know this fantastic CMS better... I wish more web dev shops in Newcastle came across to it instead of using their outdated in-house proprietary systems.

I'm happy to do a walkthrough of how we built these sites at a Newcastle meetup... any interest?

It would be great to do a catch-up. I must admit that it's been crazy, and the catch-up idea got put on the back burner.

I'm keen to meet up. I'm curious to know your involvement with Drupal at this point in time (it's Matthew, isn't it?) - do you currently build sites using it?

I've been dabbling with drupal for the last couple of years..dabbling is the key word. Anything with content management and we'll use drupal. It's been a long learning curve as I was learning html and css at the same time with out a web background (worked in tv). We're close by so we're able to meet up for coffee and drupal chat...name a time and see if fits in.

Cheers.

Drupal Developer Needed for Site Rebuild

Posted by BenHurt on June 28, 2011 at 8:50am

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a Drupal developer to rebuild the Newcastle Roller Derby League site in Drupal, from e107.

I'm the current webmaster for NRDL and have inherited the site as is. We're looking to rebuild for several reasons, one of which being the vulnerabilities in e107... we keep getting hacked and at this time, Chrome and Firefox are showing malware notifications.

I was planning to do the rebuild myself (new to Drupal but have dabbled with web design for years) but given the ongoing hacks, and a recent requirement for us to move off our current hosting ASAP, the league is happy to pay for a professional.

Would any of you be interested? Happy to provide as much info as you need.

::Ben Hurt

Probably more than you asked for...

Posted by rcross on June 28, 2011 at 10:13am

I did little research for you, hope it helps.

There is also a group specifically for sport club sites at http://groups.drupal.org/sports-club-league-management

That might be enough direction for you to complete this on your own. Otherwise, contact me if you would still prefer to have someone do it for you.

Thanks for the info

Posted by BenHurt on June 28, 2011 at 10:43am

Hi Ryan,

Sorry, wasn't trying to imply that the browsers identified the malware. They just display the notifications, as do Google search results.

Not sure which parts are broken or not implemented but then again I don't know what the admin has played with to try and fix it.

Good to know that there are some team / league management modules out there. This is actually something I was gong to build myself so it's nice to see I might not have to go to that much effort.

The biggest issue preventing me from doing this myself is lack of time, both general free time and time to really learn Drupal. I'm looking for someone to clone the general design as well as get the content structure in place. User data migration would be a nice-to-have but not essential as I could probably do that myself.

Thanks for taking the time to write your reply. Might be in contact soon.

Drupal in Newie

Posted by reb on June 28, 2011 at 10:00am

Hi Ben,

We used a Melbourne based organisation, farnham street neighbourhood learning centre for our recent website. (http://ohs.meatworker.net/)

FSNLC trained me and they also hosted the drupal website I set up for my wedding... it was fun and pretty easy! I haven't got any content on it anymore, just the front page, was thinking I could turn it into a blog!

I'll be interested to know who you end up using!

Cheers,
Rebel.

Thanks

Hi Rebel,

Thanks for responding. Will post details on here once the replacement is up.

Newcastle Roller Derby League rebuild in Drupal

Posted by sydneyshan on June 28, 2011 at 8:51pm

Hi Ben,

We'd be happy to get you a production quote. We have two Newcastle Roller Derby players working here at Enigma (Dangerass/Ange Maloney, and C-Bomber/Collett Rowland). Jump on to http://www.enigmadigital.net.au/ and give us a buzz. Our Digital Account Service Manager, Paul Doolan, would be happy to talk through your requirements and provide a competitive professional quote.

Kind regards,
Shannon Murdoch
Senior Web Developer
Enigma Digital

Thanks

Posted by BenHurt on July 1, 2011 at 12:40pm

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'll put together a document outlining the desired structure of the site etc. and send it to Paul. I'll try to contact him early next week to discuss in more detail but my time during business hours is pretty limited.

Thanks.
