Not a runner? There's still more to do for exercise or fun near DrupalCon. Just a few blocks from the Convention Center, where Trinity hits Lady Bird Lake, businesses in the Waller Creek Boathouse rent rowing sculls, kayaks, bicycles, stand-up paddleboards, and more. Get out on the lake or ride the hike-and-bike trails around it:
http://wallercreekboathouse.org

You can even rent kayaks in the evening to go out and watch the bats emerge from the Congress Avenue Bridge at sunset.

Other places to rent watercraft are the Texas Rowing Center:
http://www.texasrowingcenter.com

and Zilker Park Boat Rentals:
http://www.zilkerboats.com

There are lots of great local restaurants along Barton Springs Road just before you get to Zilker Park, so you risk gaining more than you work off if you go that way. Be forewarned! ;-)

There is no swimming in Lady Bird Lake, but Barton Springs Pool is a brisk 68 degrees F year-round. Or maybe it's 72; I forget. Either way, it's a great way to cool off. The pool is open 5 a.m.
to 10 p.m. daily except for Thursday. On Thursday, the pool is closed for cleaning between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. (You may swim 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday.) Admission is charged between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., but if you're already in before 8 a.m. then you may continue to swim for free. Lifeguards are available when admission is charged. Otherwise, it's swim at your own risk.

So plan ahead, and have a great stay!

Thanks for posting these recommendations! I am making some small decisions to make sure I get more sleep and exercise this year to offset my expected increased BBQ intake. I decided to rent a bike rather than a car, and I signed up for a couple of AM group rowing machine classes run by a company out of the Waller Creek Boathouse. http://www.rofitness.com/ They set the ergs up outside on the deck overlooking lady bird lake, so while it won't be quite as fun as actually being in a boat, it should still be fun/horrible because it's a rowing machine. 10ドル for the first class, 20ドル for the second and if I'm not fried by Friday, the third.
