How do I introduce my colleague's 10 year old son to Drupal

Maybe either finding a project that would interest him, or ask him if he wants to help out with one of your existing projects.

I have a site with a lot of SPAM content that needs to be cleaned up. I'll use that as a starting point.

You could also bring him to nice camp based in NYC which could also allow him to learn more about computers and websites
