Why would you organization like to participate in Google Code-in 2013?:

As an open source initiative looking to collaborate with and attract students to our project, Drupal feels that Code-in and Summer of Code are both priceless programs. After several years of participating in Summer of Code, Drupal was not accepted into the program in 2012 and this turned out to be devastating news to our community. Since not being accepted into SoC2012, several past SoC mentors (some original students) have been discussing and planning a way back into the programs. We're hoping to provide quality results with Code-in to help our chances of getting back into Summer of Code. In fact, our "core mentors" are planning to participate in both GCI and SoC if we're accepted to keep momentum moving year round. We believe that the children are our future and we hope to find/collaborate with as many of them as early as possible to show the world the power of open source at any age. Not to mention our newest version of Drupal (8) is currently being finished and we can use all the help we can find. Now is the perfect time for young contributors to join our community.

Drupal participated in Google Summer of Code in 2005-2012 and Code-in during 2008/2010.

drupal on freenode is the "main channel", but we have any sub channels. Specific example for this program we have #drupal-gci

Please tell us about how your organization has prepared for Google Code-in, including what (and how many) mentors and organization administrators have agreed to help, what your schedule and response time will be during the holidays (and otherwise during the contest period) and how you plan to deal with unresponsive mentors.:

Our "core mentor" group is made up of four individuals in three regions of the world including USA, Sri Lanka, and Jamaica. In addition, we currently 10 mentors from around the world that are committed to the program. Plus, we have several others who have showed interest if we're accepted into the program. 2 of the "core mentors" participated as mentors in the Summer of Code. One core mentor was actually a student then mentor in the Summer of Code. Our goal was to have mentors around the world in various time zones so that we can keep up with various questions in a global economy without conflict of schedule or holidays.
