Has anybody used Semantic UI with their Drupal site?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Has anybody used Semantic UI for their Drupal site? I just came across this http://semantic-ui.com/ as a possible replacement for Twitter Bootstrap and wanted to see if anybody has any examples. I've been playing around with it some and will post mine when I'm done.

Contrib theme based on semantic UI

Posted by culfin on November 6, 2013 at 4:04am

Hi Casey,

thanks for this great suggestion. I visited the site and think it would be a very good and lightweight alternative to Twitter Bootstrap.

Unfortunately I'm not a good themer and programmer, but would be willing to sponsor the development of a contributed theme based on Semantic UI, if necessary.

Would you help and share what you've done so fare?
Then we could create a new project based on this.

I'd be interested in following your development, if you've made a project page or anything yet!

I'd be very excited to see this as a theme, is there anything I can do to stay in the loop?

Semantic UI for Omega is under active development

I have created a Omega Subtheme for Semantic UI. you can find it @ https://drupal.org/project/semantic_ui_omega

Theme in action is here: http://b1ads.com

Hi Inders,
great to see your Omega Subtheme.
It looks very promising.

At the moment, we're working on a Sematic UI base theme as well.
If you like, you can have a look at the sandbox at
https://drupal.org/sandbox/culfin/2152101

Thats really cool culfin !

HI culfin,

Really looks nice.!

I will go though this theme and will see if I can use some stuff from there.

Lets hope to see a Stable version for both of theme themes soon..!

Thanks

Using semantic_ui_api for Library IIntegration

Posted by inders on May 8, 2014 at 7:41am

Also forgot to mention that I have added a module for adding Semantic UI library.

https://drupal.org/project/semantic_ui_api

this module mainly aimed for integrating Semantic UI in Drupal with help of Library module.

I'm very interested in themes based on semantic UI. Would it be worth starting a new group specific to semantic UI so anyone building themes/sub-themes can leverage each other's work instead of duplicating it?

Sounds like a good idea.
As you can read above, there are two different approaches available.

  1. Inders idea of building SemanticUI as an API and an Omega subtheme:
    https://drupal.org/project/semantic_ui_api
    https://drupal.org/project/semantic_ui_omega

  2. The version which tries to implement SemanticUI as an own basetheme:
https://drupal.org/sandbox/culfin/2152101 (which isn't a full project, but close to a release)

I would really appreciate it if there was growing interest in using this great framework in relation with Drupal.

Personally my preferred approach would be a Semantic UI base theme but i'd be open to an API module. I usually avoid the Omega theme but I guess the API module acts as a base theme so another them could utilize it.

How much does the implementation of the API module differ than what the sandbox base theme does?

As far as I can see the main difference is that Semantic UI API module "just" integrates the framework so you can use the different classes in your own template files.

The approach of the Semantic UI Base theme is to integrate the Semantic UI classes directly into the system by using preprocess functions, hooks and template overrides. It's pretty close to a full project:

Yeah, it does look like the api integrates the framework. So the sandbox theme looks like our best option to get us to a full base theme.

@culfin... let me know if you need any help. I'd be happy to try and bring the semantic ui to a full base theme.

@caschbre
Your help is very appreciated. Currently the theme implementation has some "rough edges", needs testing and visual refinement. Feel free to clone it from http://cgit.drupalcode.org/sandbox-culfin-2152101 and I'd be happy if you could share your thoughts and suggestions. If you'd like to commit some patches you're welcome as well :)

The best would be to open issues at the themes project page (https://www.drupal.org/sandbox/culfin/2152101) so we keep this thread clean for general discussion about this topic.

I have a new project starting soon that will be based on the Panopoly distro. While Panopoly uses some bootstrap themes, I'm going to try and see if I can use Semantic UI. So I'll give it a look through and see what can be done to make it panels friendly as well.

Sounds good. Thanks for your

aprogs has done most of the work and his account was upgraded to create the full project.
Today I asked him about this and I'm full of hope that we'll get a nice semanticUI basetheme within the next days.

I'll keep you informed. :)

Today Semantic UI 1.0 has been released, see https://github.com/Semantic-Org/Semantic-UI/issues/127

We wanted to wait until this final release because there were major changes during the last weeks.

You can expect a first version of the Semantic UI within the next 2 weeks.
It would be great if you could give it a try and share your feedback afterwards.

Thanks and stay tuned...
