Hi all! I just wanted to inform all of your that the translation for Drupal into Amharic is under way. We have a lot of work ahead of us and it would so nice to see all of you (Amharic speakers I mean) to contribute.

You can see our status here, http://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/am, you can join the project and suggest some translations. Hopefully we would have a wiki on how to do that right at the Ethiopian groups by the end of this week.

The resources we've used to get up and running are the official EICTDA's (Ethiopian Information Communication Technology Development Agency's) technology worlds translation document (to Amharic, Tigrigna and Oromifa) found here, http://www.eictda.gov.et/Downloads/Glossary/ICT%20Glossary_Amharic-Tigri... . A simple English-to-Amharic dictionary with good-old-common-sense would help definitely help as well.

What an excellent first step Tsega! Any chance you could connect with AAU colleagues to show people how to use Drupal and the new Amharic translation? What about a DrupalCamp Addis?

Best Wishes,
Zach

Thanks

Hey Zach, good to hear from you. Yes I guess we can do that, I still have some connections in AAU, so it won't be a difficult thing to do but it would also concern me what the actual content of the whole event would be. I guess sampling a previous DrupalCamp held somewhere else would be a good starting point. If you have attended one or more, it would be very helpful if you could share with us your experiences.

Thanks again,
Tsega
