Brisbane Drupalers

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Would be nice to get interested Drupalers together in Brisbane to assess the state of the state.
Can I please have an indication of who on the list is Brisbane-based or Queensland-based?
Would you be interested in getting together?
Can't let the Melbournians have all the fun.

Great idea

Posted by mattred on February 7, 2007 at 1:19am

A meetup of Brisbane/Qld Drupal interested people would be great. As you may know ourbrisbane.com has a big Drupal project on right now and we would be happy to host a such an event.

Great offer

Posted by mark matuschka on February 7, 2007 at 1:33am

Superb. Assuming there is further interest from others, how about a morning some time in the next couple of weeks? But I'll come anytime, day or night, given a bit of notice.

For those interested, please reply with your date & time preferences.

Very interested

Looking at introducing Drupal into a small consulting engineering firm. I'm familiar with using it in another organisation and have talked it up to the techies in the new place.

Do you see scope for Drupal newbies at this session? I can supply a couple of keen ones!

Preference is Brisbane, daytime (perhaps mid-afternoon start) during the week. But can cut the calendar to suit.

All welcome

I think we need to have everyone with an interest in Drupal attending.

Yep, all welcome...

Posted by nicolash on February 8, 2007 at 2:44am

We only started very recently to play with Drupal at ourbrisbane.com, so there's a bunch of newbies right here. The people here will use it from all different angles (user, admin, production, marketing, coding etc.), but for everyone it's a new thing...

I can see lots of opportunities to discuss non-techie stuff...

Count me in....

Posted by bejames on February 7, 2007 at 9:29am

Most times are fine. If day time, city location would be preferred. Otherwise happy to travel.
I live on the north side - McDowall.

Cheers
James.

Tentative date - 1st of March

Posted by mattred on February 8, 2007 at 2:00am

Hi all,

I propose that we all meet the afternoon of the 1st of March at 2pm? Depending on how many people are coming we can use one of the meeting rooms at ourbrisbane.com (George St) or if there is lots of interest I will organise a larger venue somewhere in the city.

Matthew

I'm keen!

Posted by Kat_Sweden on February 8, 2007 at 2:04am

Count me in for the 1st March, as long as that is ok for everyone else?

Cheers,
Kathie

Sounds good

Posted by mark matuschka on February 8, 2007 at 2:11am

I'll be there. Thanks for venue Matthew.

Myself and two others would be keen. We are based at Kelvin Grove. We would prefer a time outside 9-5 weekdays but would try and attend no matter what the time.

Anyone take minutes?

Report

Posted by mark matuschka on March 1, 2007 at 11:13am

Sorry, no minutes, but you missed a valuable event. Good turnout from ourbrisbane.com, not too many others. Regardless, we shared experiences, compared Drupal to other CMS's, discussed various modules, performance issues and strategies, search issues with CCK & generally, multiple websites, architecture issues, core team, etc. etc. In short, really valuable. Great to get perspective of others personally.

We discussed having future get togethers after hours. Sounds like this would suit you better, Craig. How about others? Experts and newbies alike are welcome. There was a lot of interest in building up local expertise and a general feeling that the Drupal wave hasn't yet hit Australia (or Brisbane at least) but when it does it will be big.

Thanks again to Matthew & ourbrisbane.com for providing the venue, food and refreshments. Highly enjoyable & worthwhile.

Just a quick note to say

Posted by cameronp on March 5, 2007 at 1:19am

Just a quick note to say that after hours would be great, and apologies for not being able to make it due to being overseas.

Looking forward to attending the next get together though..

Thanks,
Cameron

Any Plans for a Brisbane Drupalers 2008 Meet up

Posted by Light1 on April 27, 2008 at 9:35am

Hi there. Are there any plans for meet ups during 2008 for Drupalers in Brisbane?
Hopefully Drupal member numbers are increasing and it would be good to build on the community relationships at a local level. I currently have 4x Drupal e-commerce websites under development with more to follow and would like to connect up with other Drupal web designers. Perhaps others would like to do likewise.
What is the feedback for this from Brisbane members?

I would be interested in any meetups in Brisbane

Posted by univate on April 27, 2008 at 12:13pm

I've been getting heavily into drupal in the last 6 months and would be keen to meetup with any brisbane "drupalers" as well.

I would support a meetup

Posted by mark matuschka on April 27, 2008 at 11:43pm

Quite a while since the last meetup in Bris. Would be good to have one & gauge interest for doing something regularly. Where are you located? I'm on the south-west side but I suppose something central would be best. Last meetup was at Irish Murphys, cnr George & Elizabeth, but all options are open.

I'm at Toowong so anything

Posted by univate on April 28, 2008 at 8:18am

I'm at Toowong so anything central is easy enough for me.

There are meetups that occur at Toowong library for PHP and MySQL user groups(e.g. http://php.meetup.com/46/), the meeting rooms have audio/visual equipment like overhead projector etc... should they be required and as far as I can tell its free for non-profit groups to hire these facilities.

Maybe we could meetup at a PHP event? If there is enough interest is something drupal specific decide from there...

Sounds good although I'll be

Posted by mark matuschka on April 28, 2008 at 10:31pm

Sounds good although I'll be in Sydney at CeBIT on May 20th. The Drupal conference was to have been immediately prior to this but unfortunately it's been cancelled.

Go ahead and I'll join you the month after. Perhaps you can let the group know how it went.

Toowong sounds fine.

Posted by Light1 on April 28, 2008 at 10:37am

I'm from the southern suburbs but Toowong makes good sense as a central location for everyone across Brisbane.
The PHP meetup may be possible and would give us some ideas for structuring our own regular Drupal meet ups.
Maybe some suggestions on identifying other Drupalers on the night so we can mix and mingle a bit at the PHP meetup to get to know one another. Any suggestions?

Brisbane PHP May Meetup in Toowong

Posted by chop on May 15, 2008 at 6:32am

I've signed up to the Brisbane PHP Users Group and intend on coming along to their May meetup. I don't know how exactly we're going to identify ourselves as being part of the Drupal crowd, but I'll keep an eye and ear out for Drupal discussion.

Hope to see some of you there.

Take a look at the newest Drupal site in Brisbane - ourbrisbane.com
http://www.ourbrisbane.com/

Madness takes its toll.
Please have exact change.

Sorry I wont be at this

Posted by univate on May 16, 2008 at 6:50am

Sorry I wont be at this meetup, I'm going down to Sydney for the informal drupalapc this sunday and cebit next week. Next month maybe, unless someone wants to organise a meetup before then.

Also, yes I had noticed the new ourbrisbane.com site - definitely well done to everyone involved in that one.
