Ubuntu local test

With a ubuntu 10.04LTS fresh install + Drupal 6 & 7 fresh install, Drupal 6 is clearly faster than 7... I haven't set a chrono, just clicking some links on the admin panel shows the winner. I hope the speed will be increased on Drupal 8

Well, that is quite a boring test. Please add all modules that have been added to Drupal 7 core to your Drupal 6 installation and test again.

Drupal 8 core will be slower than Drupal 7 core overall, flexibility and more features come with a price. On the other hand it will be a lot more scalable and provide performance improvements in some areas for large sites.

I was on the not stoked with D7 boat for a while... but I found a rythm that works for me. Go with admin menu, ditch all the out of the box functionality (Overly, Toolbar) and run D7 just like you would D6. The workflow fits my personal approach better, and works fine.

Pages load fine, cache-ing is fine... once you get out of that AJAX slump the difference is imperceptible on most of the projects I am involved in :)
