Redo search in map

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I would very much like to implement into drupal a functionality to search on map-move
as we can see here:

http://www.yelp.com/search and here: http://www.airbnb.com/search

in both cases there is a map with a checkbox that says "Redo search when map moved"
after doing some reading I found that it is based on an event called "bounds_changed" from the google maps API V3

I'm looking for some advice about what would be the right way to port that functionality into drupal, my guess is that it has to be done in conjunction with views exposed filters
having a map in an attached or block display of a view working as an exposed filter on the event of "bounds_changed" for another display of the same view that could be showing node teasers.

There is a module http://drupal.org/project/getlocations that i like very much wich has made a great implementation of the google maps API V3 and i'm not sure if this "redo search on map move" could be achived as a sub module of GetLocations

or as a submodule of views or better_exposed_filters maybe..

Any comments would be highly appreciated.
