GPL icons for Drupal themes

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

The Acquia Marina theme uses icons in blocks, which presented an interesting challenge for contributing on drupal.org, since all files must be GPL licensed (PS. the PSD files for Marina are now available for download in our group). Creative Commons licenses don't cut it, which tends to be what icon designers go with when they decide to make free icons available.

But we did turn up some great icons in our search, which is where Marina gets its icons from. Hopefully this will be useful if you want to add more of your own to Marina for custom blocks, or any theme for contribution on drupal.org.

Any others?

There are a few more out there, but they are very desktop icon-focused, which isn't so helpful for web site icons.

Crystal is LGPL :( I wanted to use their icons in AF but ended up having someone make custom ones instead.

Edit: So is Nuvola according to that page.

LGPL is allowed

Sorry, I should've clarified that in the post. LGPL is allowed as far as I know. We got the OK from Acquia to include the LGPL icons in Marina. Also see: http://drupal.org/node/299545#comment-980893

After discussing on IRC, I've come to the conclusion that I lost a clue somewhere. LOL! Seriously, I have no idea why I wasn't able to use that icon, now, but it either wasn't the license or I'm remembering back to a time before I posted that issue when I got a different answer.

Or I'm just insane... Hard to tell these days. ;)

for reference: http://groups.drupal.org/icons-drupal. I've never found the time to really gear up on creating more icons specifically for typical CMS style operations etc. There's a lot of silly ones to be found on smashingmagazine.com and from the comments there I see lots of people are looking for CMS specific ones. Most of the big sets are meant for desktops indeed. Some overlap but yes, lots of concepts missing there too.

I also never finisheded a collection of 16px only black and white ones specifically for Drupal objects and actions: http://www.yoroy.com/elders/drupal/icons/icon-sheet-blackwhite.jpg

And even got a nice email from somebody asking to sponsor extending the (now in core) forum icon set for Advanced Forum. Pity his email adress doesn't seem to be working. If anybody knows how to contact the person behind the IRC nick wretched-sinner, let me know...

I have icon stuff in filefield, views and panels modules, working on new ones for status messages (http://drupal.org/node/193482). Would love to rework those to fit the same style and release again under GPL. Would need somebody to sponsor my time though :-)

Either way

It'd be interesting to hear what kind of icons you all have a hard time finding. What are the CMS-specific ones you can't really find?
