Any thoughts on 978Gs or how to get 30px gutters in Omega?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I love Omega and 960Gs, but a team designer and UI guy are loving 978GS and it's 30px gutters.
They say it gives content "more breathing room," and I understand their point.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could give them wider gutters (from 20px->30px) and use Omega? Are there any 978GS Plans for Omega?

Custom Grid Settings.

Hello, (nice badge BTW).

You can make some custom changes to Omega and re-set the grid.
More tools are coming soon. Including tools to make custom grids etc.

I think you can configure some of this via the GUI have a poke around.

Suggest you check out the IRC channel and google this. Its definately come up before.

You can prob change this via the Sub Theme CSS but it depends how you want to use Omega.
Why use 978gs out of interest?

You can use media queries and more to set the size to match what can be output, mobile, big screen, little etc.
I think the next updates are all aimed at nailing down Omega to follow responsive design (which itself is evolving).

Omega 978

Will be submitting a starterkit theme which uses the 978 grid soon.

I'm with you all on this one.

I'm with you all on this one. The Omega gutters are too small, 20px is nothing when you have a content section right next to a sidebar, it's way too squashed.

The 978gs is a good idea. I use prefix-1 on my site just to space out the sidebar a bit more. This is so unnecessary especially since if you wanted to use panels, prefix/suffix will become a bit of a nightmare. Panels wants 8/8, or 8/8/8, not 8/(+1 prefix)7. Makes things over complicated just for a bit of extra spacing. I think using padding on sidebars is the same, what's the point? Just have a bigger gutter :)

If I can help ironkiat, chuck me an email.

Thanks Sam! Yeah we got an initial omega 978 starterkit theme - with desktop (ie. normal) ready in 978, have yet to prepare the narrow, wide for 978 and 1218. Posting to drupal sandbox shortly and feel free to clone it for testing.

Great, if you could let me know or just reply to this thread when it's ready for testing. I presume it incorporates the standard stuff (debugging blocks/grid overlay) just with a different grid.

I would use panels with Omega if the spacing was sufficent so this is a good step forward I feel. Thanks.

Sam.

Hey Sam, i have push it up to the sandbox and you can clone it off here:

We are using the default .grids_x but with different values, so Panels should be using the same grids too, but feel free to play around with it.

Thanks!

Hey, I haven't updated the repo sandbox for awhile, but I will post the latest we are using into GitHub and share a link here. So far used it for a number of our own projects and seems ok...
