Moving from Services 2.4 API Key auth to Services 3.x - Similar authentication options?

I have a site that is using Services 2.4 with API key authentication on D6 and am looking to move to Services 3.x. I need to be able to restrict access to the web service, but would also like to avoid having a local user for each remote client. Is there a way to accomplish this in 3.x?

I have the same problem like Beanjamming. What is the recommended migration path to upgrade to Services 3.0 with key authentication on D6? Are there any best practices?

I'd like to know what the equivalent is. Is there some way to use OAuth in a similar way?

I haven't implemented it yet, but it seems like using a user account on the services side and a 2 legged oauth set-up is the way forward.

Bean, I've gone ahead and implemented 2-legged OAuth, which is what I was looking for. Unfortunately, in order to get there, I had to hack the Services module because it expects a key named 'services_oauth' in an array describing the endpoint. Services apparently doesn't inject this key (and it can't be added manually), so Drupal blows up on line 21 of services/auth/services_oauth/services_oauth.inc.

I'm working on a patch.
