Which editor ?

Which editor do you use ? Obviously, the editor should be the same under all operating systems we use if we want to be efficient.

SciTE is cute. One can master it in about 5 minutes. It provides syntax colouring and execution from the editor, at least for PHP and HTML (C language seems to be more of a problem, unless I overlooked something :-( ).

Eclipse is wonderfully powerful and can be a real help for fast development. On the other hand, to really master it, weeks or event months may be necessary.

Between the two (nearer to SciTE than to Eclipse, however) is Geany. That editor will be easy to use for anybody accustomed to SCiTE, and provides very useful additional information, like the program lines where variables are defined.

Try it, you will like it ! It is in Ubuntu's logitheque, but you can also find it here :

I've recently started using

I've recently started using vi/vim, mainly because it is available at most servers. It is not hard to learn, after spending a few days with it you get the touch and after that you just learn by using (and searching/googling).

I only know a little about vi/vim but it has helped me a lot and I recently recommend it.

Apart from vi/vim my editor of choice was SCiTE but on windows I prefer notepad++ (also based on scintilla). Scites standalone executable is a miracle though!
In linux, which is my OS I have scite and Vim 7.3
