What about a train ride?

With PNWDS and BADcamp so close to each other I am thinking of maybe taking the Coast Starlight from Portland to the Bay. Who's with me? We could rent some apartment in Berkeley to further cut costs.

I am planning on riding from SEA to PDX and brought it up at our last DUG. DrupalTrain FTW!

Well, I am almost certain to

Posted by chx on May 25, 2011 at 1:23am

Well, I am almost certain to come down from Vancouver to Portland via train, that's hardly a question -- this post was about the Portland-Bay Area ride after. Much longer (and much more expensive).

Amtrak to CA on sale through July

If you are an Amtrak rewards member, travel to California is 25% off right now if booked by July 31: http://is.gd/LbkdpQ

I was excited about that too,

I was excited about that too, but then I noticed that it seems to be only between LA and Davis. Not sure if you'd get the discount riding from PDX.

PDX -> Emeryville or Oakland

PDX -> Emeryville or Oakland (which would probably be the itinerary to go to BADCamp) isn't insanely expensive unless one gets a sleeping car, last I checked. I remember we talked about this a little on IRC. I would consider doing this. Right now I do plan to go to PNWDS and BADCamp (the latter is driving distance, so I won't need the room share part...in Berkeley. In Portland is another story).

checks dates of each

PDX -> Richmond north of Berkeley

To finish the trip on public transit, consider the Richmond stop and taking the BART to downtown Berkeley, rather than going to Emeryville and dealing with buses (which might be better if you're going to take a cab).

Yeah, that's good advice

Yeah, that's good advice actually. The BART transfer is super-easy.

Sorry -- I bought a plane ticket already -- I couldnt do this without a sleeper car and those are too expensive.
