WorkHabit Opens San Diego Offices

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
Posted by senpai on August 9, 2008 at 12:00am

On 08.08.08, WorkHabit opened their Southern California Office doors in the San Diego marketspace. The main offices in Sacramento, CA cover all the territory from San Jose and San Francisco to Redding, and now their San Diego based location can service clients in the Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and Beverly Hills areas. Please come celebrate with us at the next S.D. Drupal User Group meetup this Wednesday!

Employment positions are 60% filled already, but there are still several job openings available for strong framework-savvy PHP programmers, so act quickly if you'd like to be working with a visionary company! If you are a Drupal developer or themer, and you want to be living and working in sunny, balmy San Diego, now's the time.

We offer amazing working relationships and training, your own Portable Development Environment, a.k.a. P.D.E., long-standing clientele who love us and our work habits, as well as friendly and knowledgeable employees who are interested in helping you to succeed. WorkHabit also has a Community Fridays program that, should you qualify for it, will allow you to get paid to work on any module, test, patch, or document within the Drupal community at large. Ever dream of giving that pet project some love, but can't find the time? Maybe it's time to move to San Diego!

The housing market is still down, so the cost of living here is more reasonable than you might think. The food here is great, and so are the beaches. There is nothing like working on your tan while working on some code. Heck, even the pace of life is perfect for a code-head. You put in the hours required to finish the projects, and we'll give you a paycheck. How simple is that?

Our phone number, as always, is 866-WORKHABIT, and the email address is apply@workhabit.com. Get in touch with us, you'll be glad you did.

Not to take anything away from Senpai and/or WorkHabit, but is this really appropriate for the front page?

It so often seems like g.d.o is just a job posting board, when it really can be so much more

--Ryan

I'm not in the market for a job myself, but I think it's great to let people in the community know when opportunities like this come up and also to help spread the word that drupal based web firms are growing. I find it exciting and inspirational!

Correct, Mikey

This is an opportunity to say, "Hey, a group of Drupally people are doing something waaay cool."

Besides, if I hadn't posted this, i was going to have to put up a front page post about my new puppy... with pictures. I think you'll agree that a new expansion office announcement is far cuter.

I think it's great!

I'm extremely proud to be part of the San Diego Drupal group, which I feel provides a tremendous amount of support for its members.

I wish I could say the same for some of the other groups that I'm a member of. (i'm talking to you Drupal Real Estate)

My Bad

Posted by rcross on August 15, 2008 at 3:56am

Guess I stand corrected.

For the record, I think these types of posts are very useful within the groups posted to. Also, if the post had just been an announcement about the growth of a group then it would probably fit well on the front page. However, it just read as very much an advertisement and job posting which didn't feel appropriate. It could also bring up issues of abuse of power/conflict of interests type of thing and we wouldn't want other people to feel slighted. I'm also sure we wouldn't want front page announcements like this for every new drupal shop. Just to be clear, I don't have anything against the poster, the post itself - just the nature of it being found on the front page. I doubt this would be acceptable as a front page post of d.o.

Anyways, congrats on your expansion. It is nice to hear of fellow developers doing well.

Thanks Ryan

I admit, I got a little excited while I was writing. It's just that, well, I'm so excited about what's going on in the Drupal worldz these days. All the huge shops are flush with projects, the medium shops are even begging for talent, and the smaller shops are advertising for people who've even heard the word Drupal. Somebody said the market was down. Where? Where? I'm so glad to hear that the IT world is still flourishing.

Ya know, I'm not a betting man, but I think this Drupal thing is gonna catch on. One day, even record labels and media companies and the film industry will realize that open source is where it's at. You mark my words. Oh, wait...

Interesting post on Frontpage

Posted by gloscon-gdo on August 15, 2008 at 5:36am

Looks like there is room for other providers also to now seek a frontpage position of their commercial activities.

Hopefully consistent standards would be applied.

Ryan- well said. Roshan, too. I struggled with a reply to your first post, Ryan - as I am now.

So I'll try to be clear, I think Work Habit has been tremendous for the Drupal community - West Coast in particular. I understand and share the enthusiasm that's been expressed. I strongly hope they continue to do well and appreciate the knowledge they've shared with the LADrupal community.

The post on the front page didn't feel right to me, though. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention and this thread just happened to grab my attention. But ultimately I'd be more interested in seeing a front page section devoted to companies that give back to the community in similar ways as Work Habit. I think drawing attention to all the companies that (continually) support the community would benefit everyone.

I agree.

LA Drupal's Developer Database is what we use locally to list our firms, freelancers, and Drupal developers/designers AND promote the fact they have donated or are "badged" (Drupal Ind./Org. Memberships).
