BACnet Interfaces (BI Module)

BACnet Interfaces are plentiful. What is the best way to develop a Drupal module that can fully implement a BACnet interface from any vendors device.

What would the development path for a Drupal BACnet module that reads Modbus points look like?

Is there any value in thinking data routing as Modbus to BACnet to Drupal as opposed to just Modbus to Drupal?

If just Modbus to Drupal, then perhaps all Drupal wants is a 'Modbus Module', that would be tasked to a Modbus group (which does not exist at this time).
