Drupal North is a FREE 3-day conference focusing on a variety of Drupal related topics and the Community that drives the Drupal Project.

The 2017 event will be hosted in Ottawa, Canada on August 25-27th at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre. http://www.ottawaconferenceandeventcentre.com/

We are moving back the 2017 Drupal North Summit to August 25th-27th.

We’ve made this change as we realized the original July date was not the ideal timing for the event. Out of consideration, respect, and in support for other Drupal events in the general region, we have chosen to pick an alternative date.

We know it’s always a challenge with the community growing so fast and with events such as these Summits, Camps, and Cons, popping up all over the world, we can’t appease everyone and there may be some closely timed events. But, we are going to try our best!

I am hoping to try and bring together more folks from Canada and rally the troops for getting more people involved in the DrupalNorth initiative.

With an inaugural success last year in Toronto we are continuing to build momentum with this years DrupalNorth in Montreal (http://www.drupalnorth.org/). I want to build it to be even bigger for when we celebrate it's 3rd anniversary in conjunction with Canada's 150th Anniversary, as we host DrupalNorth 2017 in Ottawa.

Any other Alberta people going to be in Austin and fancy trying to catch up for some chatting and some beers. Ok so am based in BC but so far from the West coast that am in Alberta!

I will also be in Denver the week before drupalcon should any one be following a strange route like myself and want to meet up with a follow Canadian Drupaler.

September 20-21 @ The Banff Conference Centre

Hybrid Forge are excited to announce the details of Drupal Camp Alberta 2013. It will be held in beautiful Banff, Alberta and hosted at the Banff Centre September 20th-21st.

We are anticipating a great turnout and will focus on presentations relevant to both business and development.

Drupal Theming Course

By starting with the bare bones of Drupal theming to completing a custom theme, you will understand the concepts of overriding, intercepting and altering markup in Drupal. You will do a step-by-step walk through creating a new theme based on a well tested theme development framework using development best practices. You will go in more depth to coding a custom theme, using pre-process functions and theme functions to get fine-grained control. Then learn how to ensure your themes are secure, and stable. Learn how to control the output of CCK and Views.

Panels for Site Builders Course

Learn how to use a flexible system to control what displays on your site and where through configuration. Learn how to configure per-page or per-section layouts; or set up custom layouts for anonymous or selected roles; and control where content is displayed.

Site Building with Drupal

In two days, participants will be brought up to speed on Drupal and will be ready to tackle their own project. Learn how to manage media, build calendars and complex, dynamic queries of content by selecting and configuring the most popular modules.

This course is suitable both for users who are new to Drupal and those who want to broaden their Drupal skills. Participants will also review Drupal's block system and using taxonomy to categorize their content.

The ideal accompaniment is to follow this with a one day introduction to using Panels.

Drupal Module Development Course

Learn how to get custom functionality using Drupal’s hook system, as well as how to extend or alter contributed module functionality. Participants in this course will have used CCK, Views and Panels to create websites but have never built their own module. Participants will start writing a simple module to writing a complex module, step by step which uses Forms API, Schema API, all of the top ten Drupal hooks, creates custom database tables.

Duration: 3 days
Date: Mon-Wed: April 18-20; 9am-4:30pm

Drupal in a Day Course

Anybody interested in a meet-up for January? What sort of stuff would you like to talk about?

Some stuff on my mind:

• Getting started with Drupal 7 (maybe how to port modules from D6 to D7)
• Views templating (last month's attendees wouldn't have benefitted much from Trevor's presentation, but for those who aren't familiar with this technique, he's got a pretty cool example built for it)
• Mapping (in particular, maybe comparing GMaps to OpenLayers)
• Still willing to talk about Drush for those who want to see some stuff. We talked about drush make specifically last time.

Lethbridge meet-up #2 will go December 9th at the U of L. We have the same room booked again this week: AH118.

Tentative agenda

Here are some things that people expressed interest in learning about. Marc, Trevor, and I will both be prepared to talk on subjects that were of interest to attendees at the previous meet-up.

Now that the buzz of Drupal Camp has calmed down a bit, I think we're ready to get rolling with some local meet-ups.

We will host the first one at the U of L in Anderson Hall 118 on Tuesday, November 16 at 7:00pm.

On the agenda:

• Show and tell: Show us what you've been building in Drupal. This will give us a chance to get to know one another and get an idea where everyone's experience level is at.

All Drupalers welcome. Sign-ups appreciated so we can have an idea of numbers.

Are you curious about Drupal? Wondering how it can be used, and what you or your team could do with it? Drupal in a Day is an overview of the fundamental concepts of Drupal. It would be good as a foundation for potential site builders and an overview for decision makers who want to look under the hood.

Course details:

The DrupalCon North American Regional Organizing Group is looking for input from us, the Drupal community, to help pick the location for DrupalCon North America being scheduled for 2012 (and beyond).

They have put together a brief "straw poll" intended to gauge community interest about various cities that have been suggested as potential good locations.

Drupal Camp Alberta is fast approaching, and we are still in need of some speakers. In particular we would like to see some more design and business track proposals.
