Definition:

A postposition is an adposition that occurs after its complement.

Examples:

Japanese

In the following sentence, the words and oga, ni, are postpositions:

  • John ga Mary ni hon o yatta
  • John NOMINATIVE Mary DATIVE book ACCUSATIVE gave
  • ‘John gave Mary a book.’
