Orion is a custom Chromium browser with a built-in AI agent system. It combines a patched Chromium build with a powerful Chrome extension that enables browser automation, MCP server integration, and local LLM support.

The agent is a Chrome extension. Most development happens here.

Load in any Chromium browser:

1. Open chrome://extensions/
2. Enable Developer mode
3. Click Load unpacked
4. Select packages/orion-agent/dist/

Building the Chromium fork requires ~100GB disk and 16GB+ RAM. Only needed for browser-level patches.

The system has two main components that communicate over a local WebSocket/HTTP connection:

Orion Browser (Chromium fork) -- A patched Chromium build that includes a local server proxy, extension management, metrics collection, and custom UI (welcome page, settings). The build system applies patches from chromium_patches/ to the Chromium source tree and produces platform-specific binaries.

Orion Agent (Chrome extension) -- A multi-app extension system:
