At NSConference #5 Evan Doll showed their great Flipboard setup for iOS applications, adding version and commit on top of your icon.
Unfortunately for some reason, they only showed it, but didn't share that with community, so instead of complaining I've wrote my own implementation of that day after the conference, you can read more about it at my blog
