HueyOS targets Debian with a custom kernel and an AMD-first GPU policy. iMac 5K (2017) is the current "Portal" host.

Supported Targets

Debian 13 (Trixie) — baseline; UEFI-only; amd64.
Debian 14 (Forky) — staged adoption for Oct-31 update.
Kernels: 6.16.x-huey (current), 6.17.x-huey (incoming).

Minimal Install

Install Debian (UEFI, amd64). Choose GNOME on Xorg for iMac 5K targets.
Enable non-free firmware (Realtek, Intel, etc.).
Create user and enable sudo.
Network: bonded Ethernet → Wi‐Fi fallback.
Post-install: sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade.

[!TIP] Snapshot /etc/ and /boot/ after first login for rollbacks.

Auto-login fails — Verify gdm3 auto-login and Xorg session.
Backlight too low — Pick correct /sys/class/backlight/*; set to max on boot.
Wrong audio sink — Use pactl to select PCH analog sink at login.
