I would like to add one point: GCJ can be used to cleanly bootstrap the
OpenJDK from source with a chain that starts with GCCâ€™s C compiler, to
GCJ, to OpenJDK 6 (via IcedTea).
(The only wart is that later versions of GCJ rely on a pre-built jar of
ecj.)
This is why the bootstrappable builds project lists â€œMaintaining the GNU
Compiler for Javaâ€ as a collaboration project.[1]
