I am working on a free software, cleanroom implementation of the JSSE
classes, called Jessie: <http://metastatic.org/source/jessie/>. The
targeted platforms are Classpath-based, and this includes GCJ.
Currently the library is in alpha stages, but I have been making a lot
of progress lately. I have not yet tried it with GCJ, but I see no
reason why it would not work.

Jessie should be able to work on a JDK, provided that you satisfy some
of its dependencies (it relys on parts of Classpath, and uses GNU Crypto
for its crypography engines), since it uses the JSSE API and can be
"plugged in" easily.
