gcj, gij; dynamic compile problem?

Seems to be a problem with RH 7.3. The code worked fine on RH 9.
Don't know what is wrong with 7.3. I suspect libdl and ld. It could 
be the 2.4.19 kernel but that seems unlikely. I suspect that Steve W. is 
2.4.18, and RH 9 is 2.4.20.
