Hm, I asked Jesse Rosenstock, the author of java.nio.charset, to write 
some wrapper classes to make it easily possible to switch java.io 
stuff to use the new NIO charset stuff. He said he will do it but I 
got now answer yet since weeks. I think he is very busy. I will ping 
him.
