Size problem

I recently discovered GCJ which seems to be very promizing.
I tried to compile a simple Hello world program (which only
does a System.out.println("Hello World")) and I remarked
that the executable was very big (at least 1Mb).
I'd like to use GCJ for application but could it be
possible to reduce the size of the applications ?
I'm using Cygwin under windows XP.
