Err... Because folks who introduced it thought using libtool wasn't a
good idea.
I've been thinking of creating a libgcc_s.la by hand, and seeing if it
helps. I'm not sure it will, because libtool assumes uninstalled
libtool libraries must live in [._]libs subdirectories, and
libgcc_s.{so,sl,a} doesn't.
