OK, since the list is so quiet, I'll ask a question or two...
#1 What effort is being made to coordinate the development of kaffe,
which is now at version 1.0b2, with GCJ, which is based around the
0.9.2 version of kaffe?
#2 Also, how important is modularity? Is GCJ going to be a monolithic
JVM+compiler+debugger, or will it be possible for individual
components (eg, the bytecode compiler, the memory/garbage
collection component, the bytecode interpreter, the debugging
interface, etc) to be worked on more-or-less independently?
It seems like one drawback for GCJ, in terms of the pace and
productivity of development, is that a potential contributor might
have to understand everything at once in order to work on it.
Probably a lot of smart people know a lot about GCC internals, or
garbage collection algorithms, or the finer points of Java class
loaders, but not necessarily all three.
Thanks,
-Archie
