This was on QLearn on Friday morning.

Education QLD have now completely turned off QLearn.

Wow... they paid them and actually trust the result.

You may be surprised how often ransom data hostage/crypto hackers actually get paid and they normally deliver as promised, which then encourages the next victim to simply pay.

I know of several examples of SME businesses that got crypto-ransomed a few years ago via malware and their IT didn't have a good enough restore solution, so they just paid the 10ドルk whatever in Bitcoin and got the restore key without apparent issue. Most of these groups are run by organised crime.

Yeah, I've read the general thinking is that if they don't deliver then no one will pay and the endeavour is useless, so the hackers are best served now and into the future to deliver the unlock on payment

they're not hackers, just regular organised crime.

in most cases the attacks are pretty low level - social engineering, poor security on the target.

So AI injection attacks in the helpdesk tickets?

I seem to recall someone doing a RCA on a few of these types of attacks, interesting stuff.

If they can make money off sensitive data, like selling CC details, there's no way they're not doing that, even after being paid.

It's not like they have a brand or name to protect.

This ones a bit different though... student data, DOB's. Could still be sold off for ID scams... may just take 12 months after.

Not to mention they've probably created back doors into their systems.

I'm sure there are some ethical criminals, but not many. ;)

Anyone who has played Eve Online knows that it's good business to keep your word after you steal someone's stuff.
