Postpositions used with nominative/absolute case

I know which postpositions govern which case. I have learnt that the genitive postpositions use genitive pronouns, but absolute nouns (onun gibi x ev gibi). But recently, I've stumbled upon this sentence:

Uzun zaman sonra ilk defa eşimle başbaşa dışarıya çıkacak olduk onda da oğlumuz hastalandı.

Why isn't it "uzun zamandan sonra"? Are the ablative (önce, sonra, beri, itibaren, dolayı) or dative (doğru, göre, kadar, karşı) postpositions also able to use absolute case in certain situations?

No, this is a different usage. Uzun zaman sonra isn't 'after a long time', but 'a long time later' or 'a long time after'. It's like iki saat sonra or üç gün önce. The time is adding more information to the postposition: how long after.

You can see this more clearly if you add something else to the structure, like:

Doğum gününden iki gün sonra...
Two days after your birthday...

Abim geldikten uzun zaman sonra...
A long time after my brother came...

There are other cases where postpositions don't trigger the genitive with some nouns and do with others, but this isn't one of those cases.
