When the comparison is going to be made in the displacement domain, all SM data must be integrated, which might be problematic as the simple integration of the
accelerogram may produce unphysical velocity and displacement waveforms (Melgar et al., 2013).
It is also defined as the area under the absolute
accelerogram and includes the cumulative effects of ground motion duration.
However, this method may not be applicable for simulations based on a recorded
accelerogram, because the applied envelop function may not completely present the intensity nonstationarity of the original ground motion.
As the excitation input we consider horizontal earthquake load given by the
accelerogram of the earthquake in Loma Prieta, California (18.10.1989), Figure 11.
One of the main parameters influencing the input energy of structures is the earthquake
accelerogram applied in seismic analysis.
In order to dynamic analyzing of nailed wall, an
accelerogram was entered in according to fig 7 to the base model.
This
accelerogram is applied since it is a typical input in most earthquake engineering studies and also it correspond to a representative strong, broad-band motion.
The same
accelerogram was used in all simulations, the scaling factor of the peak accelerations (PA) being the only difference (Table 1).

Then based on the seismicity studies of the region, an appropriate
accelerogram has been selected and applied to the model to do the dynamic analyses and to estimate the pore pressure development within the core of the dam during the earthquake loading.
