[edit ]From Old French repaier ("to pay back "), from re- + paiier ("to pay "), from Latin pācāre ("to settle, to make peaceful "), from pāx ("peace ") + -ō (forming verbs). Equivalent to re- + pay . Cognate with repacify and French repayer ("to pay again ").
