    Ultimately from the root of quattuor ("four"), quadri-, quadru- ("four-"), and quārtus ("fourth"). Quadrus is not attested as an adjective until Late Latin, but its feminine and neuter forms are attested in Classical Latin as nouns, quadra  f and quadrum  n.
