Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary!
You need to be more careful about your choice of templates and language codes: {{inh|eu|euq-pro}}
will put an entry into Category:Basque terms inherited from Proto-Basque. No matter what you believe about the relationship between Iberian and Basque, Iberian is not itself Basque, so that's definitely wrong. The same applies to {{der|eu|euq-pro}}
. I've changed all of those to {{cog|euq-pro}}
, since you should only use derivation templates like {{inh}}
, {{bor}}
, {{der}}
, etc. when you want to not only display the language name and link to the term, but also put the entry in a derivation category. You can use {{cog}}
, {{noncog}}
or {{m+}}
, otherwise. If you want to say Iberian is descended from Proto-Basque, or both from another earlier proto-language, you would have to request at the Beer parlour for that relationship to be added to our modules- and be prepared to explain why. Otherwise you will get a module error if you try to use {{inh|xme}}
.
Please read the pages linked to in the welcome template above to learn more about how we do things here at Wiktionary. Thanks! Chuck Entz (talk) 22:39, 5 January 2025 (UTC) Reply
I'm not sure it is planned that I can response to this, but anyway I want to say some things:
- Thanks for welcoming me on Wiktionary, I have never encountered such greetings on any of Wiki projects!
- I do not believe that Iberian desedended from Proto-Basque nor Proto-Basque from Iberian, there is still not enough evidences of their exact connection. I simply wasn't sure about the usage of templates, which led down to a misinterpretation.
- I feel terribly sorry that you were correcting my mistakes with templates, I used them by analogy with already existing articles, not always taken from the same language, which led to confusion.
Thank you for your time and attention, I hope I will never make such mistakes again, Celtoi (talk) 16:05, 6 January 2025 (UTC) Reply
