The Doe Run Company

Hello! I'm an employee of the Doe Run Company, a Missouri-based natural resources company. I'm interested in updating the company's Wikipedia article. To start, I've suggested a handful of edits on the Talk page here. Would someone on this page be able to check out my ideas and make some of the changes? More for The Doe Run Company

Hello! I'm an employee of The Doe Run Company and I'm here again as a representative of the company, which is based in St Louis. I have saved an expanded and updated draft here, and submitted an edit request on the article's talk page. My goals are to correct factual inaccuracies, source all content, and provide a more thorough overview of the company's operations, among others outlined in more detail in the edit request. Would someone from this page be able to give this a look over? TS at Doe Run (talk) 17:04, 28 July 2017 (UTC) Reply

Is there any interest in adding Missouri to {{WikiProject United States }}? It seems like a useful template for regional articles that are of interest to many states. I'm working on some botany pages that span gulf states, and I'm hoping to not have to add separate banners for all six states that aren't in the template -Furicorn (talk) 07:59, 24 August 2017 (UTC) Reply

I rather like the separate format, but I'm quite open to others opinions. Grey Wanderer (talk) 16:21, 10 October 2017 (UTC) Reply

Is there any documentation of the Winona MN connection? Wondering who that logger would've been. I've always heard that the name came from the Indian word. I have nothing to go on other than folklore, but am curious. Thanks!

Townships

[edit ]
Latest comment: 7 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

I've been trying to sort out the township situation, which is rather a mess. I have updated civil township to accurately reflect that Missouri does have them, but List of townships in Missouri seems to be saying that every county has them, and has a lot more of them than (as I understand it) currently exist. Is there someone who can help with this, and find a historical perspective on the situation? Mangoe (talk) 17:15, 7 September 2018 (UTC) Reply

Sorry for the late reply. Every county does have them. However, they don’t usually have governing bodies or functions nowadays as in some states. I think they can have some function, but only in the most rural part of the state. In Boone County, with the urban center of Columbia, I can safely say 98%+ people don’t know they exists although I did create articles for them. I'd like to update the entry for The Joplin Globe, but I'm a Globe staff member

Latest comment: 6 years ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

The main reason for my post is to disclose my affiliation in attempting to update https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Joplin_Globe.

My name is Joe Hadsall, and I'm the digital editor for the Globe. Our entry is not quite accurate, regarding our history, but I don't want to start changing things around without checking to see your workflow for verification. I assume that copy-pasting from our About Us page (https://www.joplinglobe.com/site/about-us.html) would not exactly be kosher, but if it's as easy as that, I'll get to work.

Thanks for your feedback! ~joe jhadsall@joplinglobe.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by JoeHadsall (talkcontribs) 23:49, 3 December 2019 (UTC) Reply

Location stubs based on GNIS

[edit ]
Latest comment: 5 years ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Well, I'm not so sure how active this project is anymore, but maybe this'll get some attention. A large number of small place stubs for locations in Missouri are based off of GNIS, which isn't a great source for determining if a location would meet the legally recognized community standard of WP:GEOLAND. For examples Yolo, Missouri was a post office that had a stub created from a GNIS misidentification, Dilday Mill, Missouri was a GNIS error where it recognized Dilday Mill as a town, and there are many more like this. This from the Missouri State Historical Society is a good resource identifying the old history of points. While it's sometimes unclear exactly what something formerly was, the MSHS source is pretty good overall. Remember, GEOLAND only gives free passes to legally recognized populated places, everything else must pass WP:GNG. I've been trying to do some cleanup, but it's a big task, and there's only so much I can do at a time. Besides the MSHS source, there's also this database of old topo maps, which generally shows population points. The topos have their limitations, but the small-scale ones mark individual buildings, which helps determine if something was a town or a farm. Most of the states seem to have these non-notable stubs that are basically spurious entries, at the California WikiProjecct has a whole task force: Wikipedia:WikiProject California/GNIS cleanup task force. Is there any interest in creating a similar task force for Missouri cleanup? Hog Farm Bacon 04:30, 13 September 2020 (UTC) Reply

First Battle of Newtonia Historic District, Mathew H. Ritchey House, and Second Battle of Newtonia Site are all project-related GAs in the same little area (all on NRHP too). All three could use a site image; if anyone here's got some photos of the Newtonia sites, if you could upload them to Commons and add them to the respective articles, that would be much appreciated. Help updating articles

[edit ]
Latest comment: 1 year ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

I have created a Python script to generate infoboxes for Missouri Townships using 2020 Census data, GNIS data, and MSDIS GIS data. I have begun updating townships in my region, northwest Missouri, but would appreciate help for the rest of the state. It takes about 0.5-2 minutes to update an article, and there are approximately 1200 articles remaining. (There is the possibility some of the articles are already mostly or entirely up-to-date, but that has not been my experience.) If someone volunteers for a region of Missouri, I can send the generated text files or send you the script, and you can create them locally; it should not be difficult. This is a daunting task, and I'd appreciate any help or interest. Thanks.

P.S. Here is a before and after of an example Township I updated. Before and after SamuelNelsonGISP (talk) 18:56, 24 April 2025 (UTC) Reply
