Art collective infobox
[edit ]Hello all, I have designed an infobox to be used for art collectives (as at the moment the options are either the artist or organisation infoboxes, neither which really fit). It is over here in my sandbox and would love any feedback on the infobox or advice on if it is ready to be published. Thank you! -- NotCharizard 🗨 07:18, 18 August 2024 (UTC) [reply ]
- Website should probably be at the very bottom, no? Remsense .. 诉 08:51, 18 August 2024 (UTC) [reply ]
- i had thought about it, but then it would be in the "art" section. do you recommend any alternative formatting/heading? -- NotCharizard 🗨 14:50, 19 August 2024 (UTC) [reply ]
- I'd just give it its own section. Remsense .. 诉 14:56, 19 August 2024 (UTC) [reply ]
- Ah, of course. Cheers, I have done that, I've also updated the example. -- NotCharizard 🗨 19:23, 26 August 2024 (UTC) [reply ]

DIY combo table-infobox for ship article
[edit ]The article BAP Carrasco has a non-Wikitable class table with Infoboxes embedded in the cells, to make what in the end, looks like one Infobox. Is this (or was this) a standard way of creating them? Mathglot (talk) 05:52, 28 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Yes, that's how {{infobox ship }} has always functioned (see the usage guide), though the decision was made to merge the templates back in 2022 (which apparently hasn't happened yet). Parsecboy (talk) 10:28, 28 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Wow, that's kind of a surprise. Well, I can see why they haven't been merged yet, as it would be a fair bit of work. Even just updating the doc page would be non-trivial. Thanks for the update.
- I don't feel like taking it on just now, but as a template editor, at first glance I think I see how I would approach it if I wanted to do this, which would be in three major steps (with some sub-tasks, not shown):
- Write a wrapper template, not based on invoking {{Infobox }}, but rather on all four of the individual templates now described on the usage guide page, the goal being to render an Infobox exactly as you have now using the individual templates, but via only one template (the wrapper), instead of several. A new doc page could be written for the wrapper, looking just like a standard Infobox doc page.
- Write a second, transitional wrapper, that would automatically pull existing param values from the wikicode of the four ship templates on the page using {{tmpv }} and then invoke the main wrapper with those values, obviating the need to convert existing articles to use the wrapper. Three new lines would be needed per article to transition: one line to invoke the transitional wrapper, and one
<includeonly>...</includeonly>
pair surrounding the existing four ship templates. - After a period of usage to shake out any issues, bugs, or questions, write a new template in the sandbox which would invoke {{Infobox }} and duplicate the output of the wrapper. Releasing it should be seamless, and not visible to users of it. In theory, the doc page would need no updates at all, if properly written for the wrapper. Existing articles could be converted to the new, single template if desired, or just keep using the transitional wrapper, which should look identical. Future ship articles would just use the single template from step 3.
- Maybe if I get the time some time later, I'll do it. Mathglot (talk) 10:53, 2 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
A complaint about an Infobox template
[edit ]I noticed on several London railway station articles that the template Infobox London station uses factually incorrect wording.
In the source editor, it shows one parameter asborough =
but on the visual editor, when you exit the Infobox edit page, it says "Local authority". I don’t agree with this because to speak of an authority, is to speak of a group that governs, like a council. Editors put London boroughs in the parameter. And I don’t blame them. It does say "borough" on the parameter. But London boroughs are not authorities. Their councils are. For example, the London Borough of Camden is administered by Camden London Borough Council. This matter has been discussed for some time now at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK geography#Places and their unitary authorities, which they drifted into this argument whilst raising concern for the misunderstanding of unitary authorities. Although that talk has come to a sudden end and not reached consensus yet, the editors involved in the conversation - which administrators have also said the following - are on the side of districts not to be called authorities or not to be confused with authorities.
I am typing this to raise concern for the incorrect information and hopefully raise a discussion of why the Infobox does this and how we can improve.
I await your response. FeistyRooster (talk) 14:30, 22 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Naive question: why not change the infobox's description from "Local authority" to "Borough"? -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:45, 22 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- I don't know how to do that. FeistyRooster (talk) 14:52, 22 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- The usual procedure is to raise your concern at Template talk:Infobox London station and notify the relevant projects, e.g. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject London Transport. To make that change, edit Template:Infobox London station/sandbox by first copying (synchronising) from Template:Infobox London station and then changing
|label2 = Local authority
to|label2 = [[London boroughs|Borough]]
, and then inspect Template:Infobox London station/testcases how that change appears. Finally, make that change in Template:Infobox London station. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 00:37, 23 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

No boroughs in infoboxes...just cities
[edit ]There is a content dispute at Talk:Linda Lovelace#Birthplace in infobox, where an editor insists that "Place of birth: city, administrative region, country"...means if the place of birth is anything but a "city"--such at a borough, village, town, or canton--it cannot be included. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:17, 2 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
Where to report a broken infobox?
[edit ]Hi all
I'm not sure if I should report this here on the infobox talk page, I assume that this page has much higher traffic and the issue is more likely to be fixed, also I don't know if it is some kind of structural issue (I know some infoboxes share things). I've discovered that the channel link in Template:Infobox YouTube personality isn't working. As an example try clicking on the channel link in the infobox in Tolarian Community College, it goes to the correct link but then YouTube just redirects you to the front page. My guess is that YouTube has changed how it structures channel URLs and this just hasn't been picked up yet. It looks like some people are doing some kind of workaround using full URLs eg ContraPoints, but it does seem like something is broken.
Thanks

- Its also seems like the gold_button=yes and silver_button=yes tags don't work correctly. John Cummings (talk) 14:40, 24 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- I've implemented a fix on the /channel/channel_name links, but unless I can find a /user/ link to research, I'm not sure if I've completely solved the problem yet. Van Isaac, GHTV contr about 15:25, 24 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Well, turns out I broke other things with the fix. So I've asked at template talk:Infobox YouTube personality about how to handle things. Van Isaac, GHTV contr about 18:02, 24 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Hi Vanisaac, thanks very much for your help, this is all way above my technical ability :) John Cummings (talk) 09:52, 25 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
